On Mother's Day, we honor the hard work and dedication of mothers by showering them with love and appreciation.

Being a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) is the best job in the world, but dang, is it tough.

I am a SAHM to a 4 year old and 1.5 year old in south Charlotte, NC. Raising my kids full-time is the most purposeful job I will ever have, and yet it is easy to lose sight of this blessing and get caught up in the exhaustion that comes with it.

As you explore this list of ideas, notice that they require very little planning/preparation and many of them are free/low cost options. Dads, I know you're tired too!! Giving meaningful gifts to a mom doesn't have to require months of planning or cost a lot to mean a lot to her.

So Dads, my #1 tip for you as you consider these options is: don't pick based on what sounds fanciest or easiest, pick what you think MOM wants. What would show her just how much you appreciate all that she does for her family?

7 Thoughtful Gifts for a Stay-at-Home Mom for Mother's Day

Gifts that require minimal planning with maximum impact

  1. A gift card for a restaurant where Mom could go get a meal with another SAHM friend. A huge blessing of being a SAHM is that we can meet with friends during the day and build meaningful friendships, BUT it's really hard to get out a full sentence to each other while we are chasing babies and toddlers. Having the opportunity to have real conversations with our close mom friends is extremely impactful.
  2. A video compilation of clips of Mom with her kids - sneak some little videos of Mom doing her thing, loving on her kids beautifully. Use a free editing software like iMovie to put them to music and call it done! Minor amount of planning but huge thoughtful impact. BONUS: Add in videos of her kids telling her that they love her
  3. Personalized jewelry - necklaces/bracelets/earrings with your children's initials, birthdays, birth stones, or birth flowers. These do not have to be expensive and you can buy them through Etsy, Amazon, or really so many different places depending on what you're looking for.
  4. A photoshoot! Mommy and Me sessions are very popular around Mother's Day, but Mini-sessions and family sessions are fantastic options too! This one does require planning if you want to have the session already set up for her, but you could also make a homemade coupon offering a photoshoot of her choice! Stay-at-home moms take countless photos of their kids but they are rarely included in all the fun photos. Giving her the opportunity to be documented with her precious babies is an incredible gift that generations will treasure. This is also a FUN bonding experience! (Information about my upcoming mini-sessions below!)
  5. A few of her favorite things - the next time that you go grocery shopping or run an errand, grab a few of her favorites! A favorite candy, favorite drink, favorite perfume, favorite late-night snack. Remind her that you know her favorite things and want her to enjoy these all for herself without cute little sticky fingers reaching in the bag or tiny little mouths not-so-carefully taking a sip of her drink. This doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, just show her that you thought of her!
  6. Opportunity for rest/pampering. This could be a million different things depending on what Mom likes to do. It could be a gift card for a massage or getting her nails done, it could mean Dad takes the kids out for an afternoon for Mom to rest at home, or it could be a planned weekend away for Mom with her friends/family. Remember, what would SHE like?
  7. A thoughtful art project made by her kids. Not just a scribble on a scrap piece of paper. Think homemade cards, painting projects, handprints/footprints turned into art, stepping stones, or a sign to hang up on Mother's Day. Get creative to combine your gifts! You could buy a wooden frame from the dollar store for the kids to paint to deliver your gift of a family photoshoot. That simple personal touch would really show her how much you love her!
